Ferrovanadium

Ferrovanadium is an alloying agent used by producers of tool and high-strength steels to impart desirable properties such as high temperature, abrasion resistance and hardenability. Vanadium additions promote fine grain size, increase hardenability and improve wear resistance through precipitation of carbides and nitrides.

Produced by Masterloy Products Company, the cooled alloy is crushed and sized for delivery both in the United States and Canada. Masterloy’s ferrovanadium has found wide application as a component in high-strength, low alloy steels, die steels used at elevated temperatures, and high-speed tool steels.

Ferromolybdenum

Molybdenum is added to the general class of alloy steels to improve hardenability and toughness; to increase resistance to temper embrittlement, abrasion, and corrosion; and to enhance hardness and strength, especially at elevated temperatures. These steels are used in all major segments of industry, including the manufacturing of transportation equipment and vehicles, industrial machinery and tools, and equipment used in agriculture, mining, electrical power generation, food and chemical processing, and oil and gas production.

Molybdenum is used in significant quantities in high strength, low alloy (HSLA) steels used in structural applications and the production of
oil and gas transmission pipelines.
